laser hair removal

Laser hair removal is the most effective method of providing permanent or long-lasting hair removal, and is faster and less painful than other techniques.

A laser is a concentrated form of light that is absorbed by specific parts of the skin, with different lasers being used to treat different problems in the skin. The light emitted by the LightSheer Diode laser is preferentially absorbed by the pigment located in the base of the hair follicle, damaging the hair follicle and impeding hair regrowth. The special hand piece protects the skin from damage by cooling the skin during treatment.

The LightSheer Diode laser is suitable for all skin types, but works best on patients with light skin and darker and coarser hair. Most areas of hair growth can be treated, including the face, underarms, legs arms, bikini line, abdomen, nipples, chest and back.

The laser is only effective on hair follicles that are in the active growth phase (anagen), with only 20-30% of hair follicles being in this phase at one time. Several treatments are therefore necessary, with these treatments spaced approximately six weeks apart. On average 4-6 treatments are necessary for optimal results.

Depending on individual pain thresholds the treatment may be described as a slight tingling sensation up to a flicking of a rubber band on the skin. Cooling pads are applied and topical anaesthetic cream can be used to minimise the discomfort. Most areas can be treated in 20-60 minutes. However, large body areas such as legs and backs may take up to 90 minutes.

Once you begin the laser treatments using depilatory wax or plucking is not a good idea because pulling the hair from the follicle works against the principles of laser removal. However you can use other methods like shaving or depilatory creams to achieve a hair-free appearance between laser treatments.
